Excursion Expedition activities with silversea expedition tour at Ilha dos Tigres
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Explore the remarkable ghost island of Ilha dos Tigres, where you can find its dilapidated structures, some of which have been engulfed by the desert sands. Ilha dos Tigres is the largest island situated off the coast of Angola, in the Namibe Province. It was once a peninsula known as Península dos Tigres, but in 1962, the ocean breached the isthmus, transforming it into an island overnight and severing its water supply. In the past, the island hosted a bustling fishing village São Martinho dos Tigres. However, once the water supply was cut off, the village was deserted, and today, Ilha dos Tigres stand as a ghost town, gradually being overtaken by the desert.
Depending on the landing site, as well as the weather and sea conditions, after making a wet landing on a sandy beach, you will join the Expedition Team for local activities. Take a walk through the structures and along the main road, which also served as a landing strip, and fully immerse yourself in the charm of this location or enjoy some leisure time on the beach.
