Excursion Dunn’s river falls getaway tour at Norfolk

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Experience one of the most iconic Jamaican destinations during this fun-filled, full-day excursion to Dunn's River Falls with lunch.

Port Royal, Countryside Drive, Dunn's River Falls, Waterfall

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately one-hour drive through the verdant Jamaican countryside en route to the iconic Dunn's River Falls, one of the national treasures of Jamaica. Described as a living and growing phenomenon, this iconic waterfall continuously regenerates itself from deposits of travertine rock, the result of precipitation of calcium carbonate from the river, as it flows over the falls. The small, dome-shaped cataracts are usually associated with thermal spring activity found in limestone caves.

About Dunn's River Falls

Dunn's River Falls is believed to be the site of the famous battle of 'Las Chorreras', which was fought in 1657 between the Spanish and English for possession of the island of Jamaica. The English won, and, under British rule, 'Las Chorreras' was first owned by Charles Pryce. The site later became part of the approximately 276-acre (about 112-hectare) Belmont property, which was acquired by the Jamaican Government in 1972 to provide for future development of recreational and park facilities.

Waterfall Hike, Observation Decks, Beachfront, Splash Pad, Waterslides, Tranquillity Garden, Lunch

Upon arrival, experience the thrill of hiking up the approximately 960-foot (about 293-metre) waterfall in a human chain led by an experienced 'falls' guide, or view the activities of the hikers from the decks along the waterfall. You can also relax at the beachfront on the golden sands, hang out at the splash pad by the waterslides at the Central Garden, enjoy the gentle flow of the river in the Tranquillity Garden, or just lose yourself in the tropical foliage of ferns, bamboos, ginger lilies, breadfruit trees, and a variety of palms. Afterward, proceed for a Jamaican lunch at the Almond Tree restaurant by the sea. At the conclusion of your tour, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 2.5-hour drive back to the pier.
