Depart the pier and enjoy an orientation drive through Dunedin that will introduce you to a well-preserved Victorian city. Soak up the grandeur of its architecture, from the classical ANZ Bank to the buildings surrounding the Octagon, an eight-sided plaza that forms the core of Dunedin's lively business district. Pass by notable landmarks such as the Town Hall, the Municipal Chambers and St Paul's Cathedral, all watched over by the statue of poet Robert Burns.


Larnach Castle, Guides Tour, Free Time

Next, proceed to the highlight of your half-day excursion - Larnach Castle. Beautifully situated in the tranquil countryside, this magnificent neo-Gothic estate was built for William and Eliza Larnach and their six children, and commands the highest point on the Otago Peninsula. Inside the castle, see thrill to magnificent wood ceilings carved by the best European craftsmen and a superb collection of New Zealand antiques, including a unique, nine-piece totara knot suite, all masterfully incorporated into the castle's 43 different rooms. As you stroll from room-to-room, your guide brings the castle to life with stories about the brilliant, yet tumultuous, career of William Larnach.


At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach for your drive back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking, at times over uneven surfaces, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and 50 steps at Larnach Castle. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Guests are advised to wear lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes, and bring sun protection and a weatherproof coat or jacket from the ship.
