Discover the secrets behind preparing Bahian cuisine during this evening culinary experience at a local artist home atelier. The history of the cuisine begins with the landing of slaves from Africa that the Portuguese brought to work and exploit the land. While the Indians used foods such as cassava, maize, African slaves brought in the addition of spices, bananas, peanuts, and the famous oil dendê or Palm oil.
Ceasa Market
Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 30-minute drive to the Ceasa Market. During your guided wlak through the market, learn about the unique blend of Brazilian, Mediterranean, Asian and African ingredients, seasonings and flavours that comprise the distinctive Bahian cuisine. A short time for shopping will be made available for you to purchase some of the most traditional products, such as cachaça liquor, coffee beans, organic chocolate, dried fruits. Leaving the market, re-board your coach and proceed to the cooking class venue, the house of Maria Adair, a renowned local artist.
Cooking Class & Dinner
The artist's son and daughter are passionate about cooking and one of them will be your chef and introduce you to the preparation of traditional dishes in their bright, airy kitchen.
During your cooking class, learn to prepare 'moqueca', the signature dish of Bahian cuisine, based of seafood prepared in an earthenware, wok-like dish and brought to the table directly from the stove. While the food is cooking, sip a delicious caipirinha, while learning about its origin, before sitting down to a sumptuous meal overlooking the rooftops of the city.
House Art Atelier
The house is a gallery in itself, every chair and table and spoon painted with Maria's signature bold colours, and you can also take a look at her studio on the ground floor.
After dinner, and Atelier visit, re-board your vehicle and commence the approximately 20-minute drive back to the pier.
