Excursion 4x4 safari adventure tour at Milo

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

One of Greece’s most photogenic destinations, the island of Milos brims with visually stunning sights – many of them reached on this multi-stop 4x4 safari.

A crater and a beach repast
The first hour of your adventure leads south from the port at Adamas, circling the gulf coast before departing the pavement to venture via dirt road to long-dormant Fyriplaka Volcano Crater. A short walk on the hilltop of Kalamos reveals fumaroles still venting sulphurous steam today. A brief drive further on, tranquil Agia Kyriaki Beach offers up its stripe of tiny round white pebbles for relaxing and clear blue-green Aegean waters for swimming. During your hourlong stay, a fortifying snack of traditional cheese pie, mini-sandwich, seasonal fruit, and juice will be served.

Aggeria Mine (Photo Stop), Pollonia Fishing Village
Some 30 minutes onward, the extraordinary geological landscape of Aggeria Mine awaits. One of the world’s largest and deepest bentonite mines, its multicoloured layers present hues ranging from warm reds and yellows to cool blues and greens. Following this photo stop, the safari continues to Pollonia, a quaint Greek fishing port known for its gorgeous beach shaded by tamarisk trees. Savour its beauty with some free time before heading on to the starkly contrasting beach scene to come.

Sarakiniko Beach, Volcanic White Rock Formations

Sculpted by eons of wind and water, the volcanic white rock formations of Sarakiniko Beach offer a uniquely lunar take on what might be called a “beach”. A half-hour guided treck provides a sense of this bizarre terrain. Here, enjoy some time at leisure to explore this out-of-this-world beach and enjoy a dip in the crystal clear waters before the drive back to port.
