Excursion The best of santiago tour at Valparaiso

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Chile's sprawling capital lies some 120 km (75 miles) from Valparaiso, and is one of South America's most sophisticated cities, and a thriving metropolis that is home to almost six million friendly santiaguinos, over a third of Chile's entire population.

Leave the pier travelling east towards Santiago passing by the famous Casablanca and Curacavi Valleys. In Santiago, explore the major sights of downtown and uptown areas with the aim of showing Santiago's contrasts between the city's colonial heart, and its modern side.

Palacio de La Moneda

The first stop will be in the administrative and governmental heart of the city where the Palacio de La Moneda Government Palace sits. Originally a colonial mint ('moneda' means coin), it was designed by Italian architect Joaquin Toesca, opening in 1805 while still under construction. While the Palace served as presidential residence between 1845 and 1930, today it houses the offices of the President and three Cabinet ministers: Interior, General Secretariat of the Presidency and General Secretariat of the Government.

Plaza de Armas

Continue to the Plaza de Armas, the city's most famous square surrounded by some beautiful buildings including the impressive Cathedral and Central Post Office.

After Plaza de Armas, a 3 course lunch will be served in a leading restaurant nearby. Following lunch, the tour ends at the pier.
