Excursion Drakes seat, magens bay & skyride to paradise point tour at Saint Thomas
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
It all begins with a scenic 15-minute drive by open-air safari bus from the cruise port up to Drake's Seat Scenic Lookout, home to commanding panoramic views of St. Thomas’ north coast and even out to St. John and the British Virgin Islands. This spot is reputed to be where notorious British sea captain and privateer Sir Francis Drake once directed his ships to plunder. During your brief visit to this strategic mountaintop location, you might well experience your own sense of piratical command as you take in the spectacular down-island views.
Magens Bay Beach Break
Just a few minutes’ drive away and down at sea level, the white powdery sands and crystalline waters of Magens Bay await. You’ll have about two hours here to sunbathe, swim, relax, snack, and generally confirm why this spectacular strand has been deemed one of the planet’s top ten beaches. Chances are it won’t take nearly that long to agree with the popular opinion.
Skyride to Paradise Point
Having enjoyed your mellow beach time, a subsequent 15-minute drive via safari vehicle brings you to the Skyride base station in downtown Charlotte Amelie – and the exhilaration of Skyride, a 700-foot ascent by windowed gondola to Paradise Point and awe-inducing views of St. Thomas’ picturesque harbour and southern coastline. On a clear day, you might even spot Puerto Rico and St. Croix way out on the horizon. With about 75 minutes to drink it all in, perhaps you’ll also opt to drink in a renowned Baileys® Bushwacker from the bar. There are also bites to be purchased at the restaurant, enticing local souvenir shops to browse, and a vertiginous stroll out on the new Skywalk platform to experience – if you dare.
A return gondola ride down the mountain brings you to the Skyride base station – conveniently located across the street from the cruise port and a short walk back to your ship.
